Stephen (Steve) Husbands, 76, Kennedale, Texas, died Sept. 16, 2026.
Husbands, along with his friend and business partner, Bob Shaffer, started Overland Rentals in Arlington, Texas, in 1982, which would later become Rental Stop with locations in Arlington and Grand Prairie, Texas.
The pair also founded Point of Rental Software, headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1984 when Overland Rentals started its Point-of-Rental™ Systems division to develop, market and support rental management software. He retired from a leadership role in the company in 2012 after selling his stake in Point of Rental to current CEO Wayne Harris.
Husbands is survived by his wife, Diane; son David Husbands (Jill); daughter Kendra Guthrie (Ryun); grandchildren Kennedy, Keann, Lincoln, Briggs and Ford; sisters Liz Gorham (Mike), Carolee Duckman (Bob); and brother Jim Husbands.
