To give its employees a covered walkway between buildings and more places outdoors to take a break, the rapidly growing Sinovac Biotech company, south of Beijing, China, turned to Pfeifer Spatial Structures (Shanghai) Co. Ltd.

The ETFE structure covers an area of about 1,700 square meters (18,299 square feet), and the shell structure system is supported by aluminum profile and stainless steel, not traditional steel. Construction took place during winter, so Pfeifer Spatial Structures transported the membrane material to the site in advance and stored it in the warehouse, where the temperature stayed above 25 C (77 F). Each panel left the warehouse separately, to ensure that the temperature was 6 C (43 F) or more during installation.

The project won an Award of Excellence in the 2024 Advanced Textiles Association International Achievement Awards.
