Pryor LLC announced it has officially acquired Moretex Chemical Products Inc., a 117-year-old chemical manufacturing company known for its service to the textile industry and its high-performance polyethylene emulsions.
Founded in 1908 by brothers John S. and Robert Ambrose Moreland, Moretex began by supplying cotton sizing to the booming mills of Spartanburg County. The company was formally incorporated in 1924 and has operated continuously from its facility at 314 West Henry Street.
Over the past century, Moretex has become a trusted supplier to textile, paper, adhesive, rubber and ink manufacturers across the region, offering consistency, reliability and specialty chemical expertise.
“This company has survived the Great Depression, two world wars, 22 U.S. recessions, the 2008 financial crisis, and even the great exodus of textile manufacturing from the South to overseas,” says Reggie Pryor Jr., CEO of Pryor LLC. “That kind of resilience is rare. We’re not just buying a business; we’re carrying forward a story of endurance, excellence, and South Carolina grit.”
Under Pryor’s ownership, the company will undergo strategic modernization, including updated infrastructure, process efficiency improvements and innovation initiatives to enhance product quality and operational capacity. Despite these changes, the Moretex name will remain.
Pryor is a holding company specializing in the acquisition and revitalization of legacy businesses across manufacturing, industrial services, chemicals, finance, real estate and technology.
