Barbara Connett named Expo show director
Barbara Connett, who has worked on the Marine Fabricators Conference for the past several years, was promoted to Advanced Textiles Expo show director, beginning with the 2026 show.
“Barbara is the right person at the right time to give Expo the focus it deserves. Her experience at ATA and strong understanding of the needs of our members and customers will help us enhance the value of our flagship event,” says Steven Schiffman, president of Advanced Textiles Association (ATA).
“As a board member, I have had the pleasure of working closely with Barbara several years. Her attention to detail, organization and understanding of our industry were key components for many successful events,” adds Keri Ames, chair of the Marine Fabricators Association (MFA) advisory board. “Barbara’s leadership and presence will be greatly missed.”
Connett began her career at ATA in 1996, splitting time between the mailroom and reception. She’s held various positions in her 30 years with the association, most recently as education and events manager for the Marine Fabricators Conference, Geosynthetics Conference, and Upholstery & Trim Annual Convention (UTAC), as well as division supervisor for MFA.
“Each position has built my understanding of our various industries and member needs, particularly around education and training,” says Connett.
She adds that she will miss the deep relationships with MFA and the marine members, but that she believes she can “take the many things that I have learned working with them on the Marine Fabricators Conference to bring more hands-on education to ATA and develop our educational efforts there in a way that brings more value, including enhanced training and networking opportunities” in a way that benefits members across all markets.
Neuhaus to take over Marine Fabricators Conference
Courtnie Neuhaus was hired as the new education and events manager for MFA and will take over the marine conference, starting with the 2027 event. She is also working with the advisory board to plan the yearly MFA regional workshops.
“We’re delighted to welcome Courtnie to ATA,” says Schiffman. “She brings a unique skill set to the Conference Management team through her experience at Marriott. That expertise will strengthen how we work with our hotel partners.”
Neuhaus spent over five years working for Marriott International brands as a catering and sales director, where she built a strong foundation in contract negotiation, client relationships and strategic dealmaking, all of which are crucial for creating strong events.
“There’s something special about taking an idea and turning it into an experience people will remember. I’m all about the details, the energy and creating events that feel seamless, fun and a little bit unforgettable,” says Neuhaus. “I know I’m stepping into some very big shoes following Barbara, but I’m incredibly grateful that she’s still here to offer guidance and support along the way.”
Neuhaus attended the 2026 Marine Fabricators Conference and learned hands-on from Connett, who says she is confident that Neuhaus’s work ethic and fun attitude will be a great fit. Attendees may remember Neuhaus as the enthusiastic judge of the costume contest’s tiebreaker dance-off at the welcome party.
“Having worked closely with Courtnie on the 2026 Marine Fabricators Conference, it is evident there is no lapse in leadership and we continue to be in great hands,” says Ames.
“Looking ahead, I’m excited for what’s to come,” adds Neuhaus. “I believe we’re building something really special together, and I can’t wait for many years of continued fun, learning and growth within the marine conference community.”
