The International Code Council (ICC), a source of model codes, standards and building safety solutions based in Washington, D.C., acquired Code Concepts Group, Brighton, Mich., a consulting firm specializing in fire and building code advisory services, training and technical consulting for emerging technologies and plan review services.
According to the organization, Michael O’Brian joined the council as senior vice president where he will oversee and help expand the ICC’s advisory services. He brings with him more than 30 years of experience in the fire service, emergency management, code enforcement and technical consulting fields.
“I’ve spent my career helping communities and the building safety industry navigate complex code and safety challenges,” said O’Brian. “Joining ICC creates an exciting opportunity to scale that impact, expand the reach of technical advisory services and help jurisdictions and stakeholders address rapidly evolving technologies while maintaining the highest level of safety and code compliance.”
The acquisition deepens its technical advisory expertise in energy storage systems, fire protection systems, etc., according to the organization.
“Code Concepts has spent years solving some of the toughest fire and line safety questions in emerging areas such as energy storage and battery manufacturing,” said John Belcik, CEO, ICC. “This is exactly the kind of specialized expertise our members will benefit from as these technologies continue to scale quickly.”
