Seaman Corporation, Wooster, Ohio, announced that its FiberTite® single-ply roof membranes have received a 40-year reference service life (RSL) through an environmental product declaration (EPD).
An EPD is an independently verified document that provides quantifiable data about the environmental impact of a product throughout its life cycle. The FiberTite EPD provides a full life-cycle analysis, from raw material extraction through end-of-life.
“We know that commercial building owners and operators everywhere are looking to make more sustainable choices without compromising their operational security or integrity,” says Peter Kirk, strategic market manager, Seaman Corporation. “This newly issued EPD is proof that FiberTite can accomplish both goals.”
The 40-year RSL is attributable to high performance in several areas, including:
- Weather resistance. FiberTite membranes contain KEE polymer plasticizer which resists evaporation and extraction due to long-term exposure to the elements, preventing embrittlement that could result in failure.
- Puncture resistance. FiberTite membranes contain a reinforcing fabric that is densely packed with fiber, providing excellent puncture resistance that is maintained over the long term.
- Chemical resistance. FiberTite membranes demonstrate little change after long-term exposure to common chemicals, fats and oils, maintaining their structure in terms of mass and flexibility.
The FiberTite EPD is approved by ASTM International in accordance with ISO 14025, ISO 21930, ISO 14040/44, the NSF International’s Product Category Rules for Single-Ply Roofing Membranes and ASTM’s General Program Instructions for Type III EPD.
