Creating a vision in white, gold and sparkling crystal.

Staging an outdoor event in January can present a number of challenges, from blizzards to ice storms. But at this reception, held at the Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach Resort & Club in Dana Point, Calif., the only white to be seen was on the inside of the tent. From chairs and linens to drapes and flowers, the entire event was a vision of white, with warming touches of gold and sparkling crystal.

Of course, even coastal California can be subject to winter storms like the series of atmospheric rivers that wreaked havoc across the state at the beginning of 2023. But on this occasion, the biggest weather concern for Natalie Good, creative director for A Good Affair event design and production company, was the damp coastal chill.

Premier Lighting & Production designed a ceiling of twinkle lights mixed with modern chandeliers to create an atmosphere of wonder, while maintaining the elegance.

“This was a January beachfront wedding, so we wanted to keep everyone cozy and warm but still have that elegant and magical feel,” she says. “Because of this, we decided on a clear-top tent provided by Signature Party Rentals so we could keep people warm, and then have a ceiling of twinkle lights mixed with modern chandeliers to create an atmosphere of wonder, while maintaining the elegance.”

The mirror-top tables supplied by Revelry Event Designers reflected the beautiful details of the lavish tablescape, from the endless bouquets of flowers to the adorable table cards placed under glass cloches. They also amplified the soft glow of the candlelight as well as the twinkle lights and crystal chandeliers supplied by A Good Affair, all of it coalescing to create the perfect ambience for a truly gorgeous event.

“The weather combined with an outdoor venue was the largest challenge to overcome, but we were able to bring the outside into the tent with the clear top giving way to the stars,” Good says.
